News Director of KVBC Las Vegas, Robert (Bob) Stoldal became interested in news and information at a very early age. Born and raised in San Francisco, in 1958, Bob's family moved from California to Las Vegas. Bob attended Las Vegas High School where he wrote for the school newspaper. Later, he was the editor of the student newspaper at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His first paying job in the media was sweeping the floors in the pressroom of the Las Vegas Review Journal.
From there, Bob went to work as a radio announcer at KLAS radio, and later became the station's News Director. At the same time he was part-time sports and weatherman at KSHO-TV, Channel 13. In 1967, he was hired as a reporter and anchor at KLAS-TV, Channel 8, and was promoted to News Director in 1968. In 1978, the station was sold to Landmark Communications. During his tenure as news director, United Press International honored KLAS as "Best Newscast in America." In 1992, Landmark asked Bob to expand the news operation at a newly acquired CBS affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee, and he helped launch three 24-hour regional all-news cable channels in Virginia, Tennessee, and Las Vegas. In April, 1998, Bob launched Las Vegas ONE, a 24-hour local news television operation, owned by Cox Cable, KLAS and the Las Vegas Sun Newspaper.
Following his return to Las Vegas, he was promoted to Vice President of News for KLAS. In 2009, Bob was named Vice President of News for the Sunbelt Corporation. He oversees the news operations in the television company's stations in Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, and Montana. He continues to focus his attention on the history of Nevada and Las Vegas through writing and support of several history organizations. Bob is married to Kay Stoldal and they have four sons.
